Surf the Web: Choosing Your Home Page

When you launch your web browser a predefined web page appears. This page is referred to as the home page or start page. The good news is that you're not stuck with any particular page--your free to choose any one you want. Why would you want to change it? That depends on which home page is your default page and how useful it is to you. There's No Place Like Home (Page) A browser's default page depends on where you obtained the software. If you downloaded it from Firefox, Microsoft or Apple, the home page is usually a page from the websites of one of these companies. If your browser came with a new computer, the default home page might be that of the manufacturer. It could also be the page of your Internet service provider if it provided your browser software. If the browser was installed by your company, the home page may be your company or department page. Depending on your personal preference, you can reset the home page to any one you like. It might be the home page of a news site or a political blog or to a page that's just plain fun. Whichever home page you select, you can easily access it by clicking the Home button on your browser toolbar. Move to a New Home Here's how to set your start page: If you use Internet Explorer, first go to the page you want. Now click the Tools menu, then select Internet Options. Click the General tab. Finally, click the Use Current button. You can also type in the address of the page. For instance, if you want Learn the Net to be your home page, enter the complete address, like this: http://www.learnthenet.com With Firefox, go to the Tools menu, then select Options. In the Home page section, either click the Use Current button if you're on the correct page or type the new web address in the box. Finally, click the OK button. It's that easy.
