HTML Overview Web pages are created using HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), a document formatting language.   HTML allows you to specify text size, color and font and has codes for the placement of graphics on a web page.   HTML files are stored on web servers in ASCII (plain text) format, so they easily transfer between computers using different operating systems.   Formatting "tags" instruct a web browser how to display a hypertext document.
