The Interactive Glossary: Defining the Net
Access Provider
An access provider is the remote computer system to which you connect your personal computer or mobile device and through which you connect to the Internet. An access provider provides you with Internet access and typically, e-mail accounts. Most access providers are large commercial services like AT&T and T-Mobile that charge a flat rate per month for unlimited hours or that sell a temporary "pass" for hourly or daily access. Internet access can be via telephone lines, cable TV, satellite or wireless connections.
The range of services and the cost can vary widely depending on your geographic location and the number of service providers in your area.
